JOiN US
For the winter program 2024/25, we are looking for new enthusiastic players from all over the world! You are cordially invited to our first rehearsal on October 17, 2024 at 7:30pm at the parish hall of St. Vinzenz. If you are interested, please send an email to info@mio-home.de.
Each year we work on two programs. Rehearsal times usually match the summer and winter semesters of the universities; we hold our concerts at the end of each semester. During the semester, we rehearse every Thursday starting at 7:30pm. Additionally, we go on a rehearsal retreat outside of Munich for one weekend. Our next rehearsal weekend will take place from November 29 until December 1 in Benediktbeuern.
Exchange students are welcome even if they are only able to join us for one or two semesters. If you play a wind instrument, you can join for one piece and one semester. We are also happy to assist with instrument rentals.
How can you join the MiO?
- Our first rehearsal, on the first Thursday of the semester (October 17), is open to anyone who wants to get to know our orchestra and to play along, if desired. There will be a short introduction to the MiO at 7pm and the rehearsal starts at 7:30pm.
- Auditions will be held on the following Tuesday from 6-10 pm. Please prepare a short piece of your choice; you will also be asked to sight-read a short passage. You can get in touch with info@mio-home.de to schedule a timeslot for the audition.
We are looking forward to meeting you!

ORCHESTRA
iNTERNATiONAL
True to our name, we particularly invite exchange students and visiting scholars to play in our orchestra. Many of us have had the experience that, when in a foreign country, music can be a great opportunity to get to know the culture and people. With regular get-togethers and a rehearsal weekend retreat, the MiO provides an ideal setting for meeting new people. We are supported by the international offices of the Munich universities as well as partners for instrument rentals.
SOCiAL
Music is never made in a vacuum. Through various projects, we try to involve people in classical music who otherwise wouldn’t have an opportunity to do so. For our upcoming programs, we are again planning to cooperate with a number of schools and social projects.
EXCiTiNG
Contemporary and modern works are an integral part of our repertoire. We thereby aim to both acquaint ourselves with new music and give young composers the opportunity to bring their works in front of an audience. The combination of well-known pieces and exciting new works results in unconventional and diverse concerts.
