JOiN US

For the summer program 2026, we are looking for new enthusiastic players from all over the world! We are looking in particular for hornists, flautists, trombonists, tubists, percussionists und string players – especially bassists. You are cordially invited to our first rehearsal in April 2026 at Gemeindesaal St. Sylvester (Biedersteiner Straße 1). If you are interested, please send an email to mitspielen@mio-home.de.

Each year we work on two programs. Rehearsal times usually match the summer and winter semesters of the universities; we hold our concerts at the end of each semester. During the semester, we rehearse every Thursday starting at 7:30pm. Additionally, we go on a rehearsal retreat outside of Munich for one weekend.

Exchange students are welcome even if they are only able to join us for one or two semesters. If you play a wind instrument, you can join for one piece and one semester. We are also happy to assist with instrument rentals.

ORCHESTRA

iNTERNATiONAL

True to our name, we particularly invite exchange students and visiting scholars to play in our orchestra. Many of us have had the experience that, when in a foreign country, music can be a great opportunity to get to know the culture and people. With regular get-togethers and a rehearsal weekend retreat, the MiO provides an ideal setting for meeting new people. We are supported by the international offices of the Munich universities as well as partners for instrument rentals.

SOCiAL

Music is never made in a vacuum. Through various projects, we try to involve people in classical music who otherwise wouldn’t have an opportunity to do so. For our upcoming programs, we are again planning to cooperate with a number of schools and social projects.

EXCiTiNG

Contemporary and modern works are an integral part of our repertoire. We thereby aim to both acquaint ourselves with new music and give young composers the opportunity to bring their works in front of an audience. The combination of well-known pieces and exciting new works results in unconventional and diverse concerts.

CONDUCTOR

Uwe Sochaczewsky was born in Berlin and studied conducting with Prof. Rolf Reuter at the “Hanns Eisler” School of Music.

After an engagement as Director of Studies and 2nd Kapellmeister at the Theater Nordharz, he worked as Kapellmeister at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden from 2004-2011. As a guest conductor, Uwe Sochaczewsky conducted several times at the international opera festival of the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg and at the Cologne Opera. He has conducted and assisted at the Cologne MusikFabrik, the Bavarian State Opera and the Schwetzingen Festival, among others.

He has worked as an arranger for the Cologne Children’s Opera, the Salzburg Festival and repeatedly for the Children’s Opera House at the Berlin State Opera “Unter den Linden”, where he last conducted his arrangement of Wagner’s “Lohengrin” in May 2023.

Since 2011, he has been a lecturer in music theory and chamber music at the University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and director of the university’s symphony orchestra. He is a lecturer in orchestral conducting at the University of Music and Theatre Munich.

Uwe Sochaczewsky has been conductor of the Munich international Orchestra since April 2017.
